A Confluence Of Events

Is it me or does it seem like certain things just happen to happen all at the same time?

I mention this because I had to have a wisdom tooth pulled today, my computer's crashed and needs to be fixed, and work has become quite busy to the point that I can't take any time off due to my tooth-pulling. Ugh.

I don't know when I'll have the time and $$ to fix the computer, so posts here may not be as plentiful as they could be.

Sometimes there are days where everything is a jumble and nothing seems to work right. I had those days this past weekend.

It all began when I stayed up much too late on Saturday morning to go get my hair cut. I'd gotten up earlier than normal on Friday afternoon and wound up staying up close to 21 hours. Not healthy.

The rest of the weekend was a fog of "bleh" feelings, not going anywhere, and trying to relax. I wound up sleeping almost 12 hours from early Monday morning to late Monday afternoon. I don't know why this was so, but I guess being entirely out of whack like I was on Saturday morning really threw my body for a loop.

In the midst of all this fog, I did manage to watch the Star Wars Episode III and Titanic 3-disc DVDs I bought on Tuesday last. I was not impressed with the extra scenes in the Episode III DVD, but was fairly enthusiastic about the extra scenes in the Titanic set. I just wish there were a way to have included them in the main feature, but the main feature has behind-the-scenes movies instead. Meh.

After watching my favorite parts of the Episode III disc, I made this little bit of artwork to celebrate Hayden Christensen's sparkling performance as Anakin Skywalker.

He hit all the right notes as Anakin in this one. I also liked his whiny brat in Episode II, but that's a whole different story.

I also took my dad to see Jarhead this weekend, liking the film a great deal. It didn't resonate with me or leave a serious impression as to whether I can say unequivically that I like it or not, but the experience was good and I would reccomend it with a qualification that there is an immense amount of profanity in it.

How time flies.

Today was the 2nd anniversary of my return to the company I worked for. Before I left, I did 5 years of time there, then left for a couple of years. I then came back part-time on this date and have been back with them ever since.

Though the industry I work in is up and down and has slow days and fast days, I'm kinda-sorta glad that I work for some relatively nice people. I've worked in highly corporate environments, politically charged environments, and environments where it was difficult to get through a single day without lighting my hair on fire and jumping in front of a train out of sheer boredom.

I work the graveyard shift and as such spend a lot of time by myself. It's a sign of how well I've adapted to that that I've done it without batting an eyeleash at other places to the chagrin of other people who scratch their heads and wonder how I can do it.

Doesn't bother me, I prefer working by myself anyway. It helps that I know how to do my job and that I care about doing it right. I grew up a son of a Teamster truck driver who cared very much about his work and impressed that upon me when I began working. That impression still lasts today, and though I'm currently comfortable where I'm at, there have been times that I've been incensed at other people's lack of caring and contempt for the job. It's appalling.

I once had a software vendor at another place I worked at call me "the perfect company man." I took it as a compliment. I helped him and his co-workers when they needed it and participated in a live demonstration of the software for other clients that they brought in. It didn't bother me and I was glad to help him out. Sometimes I miss working there, though I definitely don't miss the politics.
